Went here yesterday, the day was great, sunny slight wind, some fish were risng tho most were taking under water. Saw several caught before i hooked my first, a fully finned hard fighter of 2lb 12oz half an hour later it was followed by a second fully finned hard fighter of 2lb 1oz. Went and had some dinner in the club house. And started again after a brew. Third fish was immaculate weighed in at 3lb 6oz, exactly.
Altogether a spot on day cheers Wendy.

I have posted about Moorhen and how good the fishery is in the past, it is time for the guy with all the different names to stop using this site for a personal vendetta against the owners of Moorhen, this is a fishing site for information on fisheries, you obviously dont fish Moorhen fishery, because you never post anything constructive. I also think it is time for the owner of this site to make sure posts are kept to fishing, no one is interested in the personal stuff this person is posting. If Mr poster you are struggling to catch fish perhaps if you read what true fishermen post you may learn how to bag up.

Also to those who have problems with Wendy and Mark why not go an sort it out face to face like an adult instead hiding behind a made up name on here like a child imsure if sure theyd be happy to compensate you if you had a genuine complaint but i know the place better than you an i can guarantee nobody uses lobworms Wendy an Mark would never lie about catch and release and also its not a stockie bashing water so if you want easy peasy fish go to meon springs a lovely venue lovely fish but way too easy to catch.
Honestly if you have a problem about the fishing then talk to them about it, also if you dont catch you only pay ten pounds on your next visit so at the minimum thats fifty percent off!
what a bargain.

I fish here regurlarly and have to say it is without doubt the best fishery ive ever been to.
Its never easy which is good otherwise fishing would be called cathing. Though as of late the water has been very warm and as anyone who knows about trout will tell you, they dont like warm water, the last month or two has been tough nobody will deny that but people are still catching. And coming back time and again. Yes there are some coarse fish in here but they are also good fun to catch, the management are currently in the process of sorting out this problem.
The Trout are fin perfect and fight extremely well.
I studied fish ecology biology and management and these fish are spot on.

Hi,
Its quite amusing to see some of the comments on here - but to be honest, its really childish and totally incorrect. I felt compelled to write an honest review, to refute some of the rediculous (suspiciously rediculous)comments.
I am reasonably new to fly fishing (but an experienced fisherman) and I have been to this fishery, a couple of times in the last couple of months. I can only honestly say what I found.
The surroundings were beautiful. I was made to feel very welcome - great bacon butties!
The fishing was great, I didnt catch my full quota on the second occasion, but I did catch a beautiful trout on both occasions (and was given credit to come back again!).
There may be better places, but I found this one excellent. I dont really know what more the owners could do.
My advice is - give it a go, you wont be disappointed.

Two fed up visitors managed to catch fish using lobworm!!!!!!!

To Angryfisherman,
Just letting you know that I am nothing to do with this place. My criticism of Meon Springs was completely neutral. On the one-or-two occasions I have visited Moorhen it has been decent - far better than Meon Springs, but certainly not the best fishery I have ever visited. I hope that mine and other peoples honest criticism of certain fisheries has not started some kind of childish feud between the owners and their loyal patrons.
And please, use your brains to find your own methods of criticism. "[S]omebody (presumably the owners) are over-rating the score system under numerous pseudonyms" is exactly the same sentence I used on the Meon Springs board. Granted, this is also happening on here, but please dont plagiarise.

I am appalled by some of the comments on this site about a venue that I consider to be excellent in every way. I have been fishing at Moorhen Trout Fishery for about three years. It is a lovey location, the fishing is excellent, the fish are really good to eat. Mark and Wendy are friendly, helpful, and look after you extremely well. My family came and joind me for lunch recently and they were most impressed and thought that the owners were charming. If BPS and others do not want to return to Moorhen then that is fine by me. I will certainly be back. Keep up the good work Mark and Wendy.

My complaint below appears to have been replied to by moorhen or one of their bully boy ambassadors. I started using this site to warn fishermen about moorhen. I feel obliged to save fishermen time and money.
Somebody, presumably the owners, are over rating the score system under numerous pseudonyms. Mark and wendy have, at last, admitted moorhen do allow catch and release. Fishermen can now make up their own minds. I have found a lovely fishery where I can see and catch fish. I will not be returning to moorhen.

Moorhen Trout Fishery is a small family business that takes any constructive criticism positively. This type of site is a chance for people to review fly fishing venues, however a lot of the below comments are abusive to Wendy, and I and are just not true. We have no records at all of these fishermen ever fishing at Moorhen and always give each guest every opportunity to express their concerns to us. Please can we ask that if you do fish with us and you are not comfortable in any way, please contact us at Moorhen Trout Fishery.

On behalf of Moorhen Trout Fishery, we are deeply concerned and would like to apologise for your bad experience. Fishing can be difficult particularly in this hot weather and that is why for a number of years we have officered a credit system whereupon you pay £10.00 the next time you return and go back onto the existing ticket. We also do not impose a time limit on your stay with us, to give you every opportunity to catch your fish. We encourage our fisherman to raise any criticism with us and will do everything in our power to rectify any issue. Please contact the fishery so that we can meet and resolve the issues that you have had, as we have no records of anything like this ever being raised. As explained previously, we do not offer a catch and release ticket, this opportunity only exists for the 5 season ticket holders (this is capped).

By very angry fisherman - If your fishing is the same standard as your English, then you’re clueless!! I have fished Moorhen several occasions, the staff are friendly and the fishing is challenging but rewarding. A good fishery should be challenging, take Meon Springs, bagging up in 10 casts, not what the majority want!

On behalf of Moorhen Trout Fishery, I would like to thank you for all of your reviews. We take them very seriously and will in future take time to reply. I’m glad that for most of you it’s been an enjoyable experience. Can I please ask anybody to review our gallery on our website or our Facebook page and form their own opinion on our fishery, as we believe that it speaks for itself. We pride ourselves on the quality of our fish and do not offer catch and release as an option and have not done so for many years. We do have a handful of our most trusted fisherman as members, and they are true ambassadors for the fishery. They are offered a limited catch and release option.
We are a small family run business and take customer care so seriously and will always be open to discuss any issues or concerns that people have.

Moorhen fisheries... I previously fished the lake when owned by the Smith brothers, run by Alister and it was great.
Since I have returned although the fishery is well kept the quality of the fishing is very poor.
You can see on their gallery there are fish with large sores, fins and tails missing and the standard of the fish and therefore the fight is not top quality.
One major point that struck a chord was the fact that certain individuals pay a yearly fee to catch and release rainbow trout. This I feel destroys the fishing as they are hook shy. This fact may contribute to the poor quality of the fish ..!!!
I found out after some research they have had a servere problem with lice which is common in very small fisheries.
I also left my email address with the managers and h

Its a shame people like BPS lie because it stops beginners like myself reading honest reviews. Luckily I have already been to this venue and know the truth. It truely is an outstanding venue, yes its near a road, which is handy when you have a car! and as for the tatty trout what a load of ****. Yes I agree with BPS it is expensive but so is Porche, if you want the best you have to pay for it.
As PJW points out, you are obviously connected to Meon Springs, which is shame as I planned to fish there. If your willing to lie to benefit this venue, then I think I will give it a miss.

I Think BPS needs to get his facts straight - Moorhen dont do catch and release, so I wonder if he has even been to this fishery?!?! Also it seems a little strange that he is moaning about people giving "fake" low review marks to Meon Springs and on the same day marks Meon Springs as 5 stars and Moorhen as 1 star?!?! Moorhen is close to the road that is true, but it is a very friendly, well run fishery. Mark and Wendy do a great job and I have never seen tatty/unhealthy fish come out of their lake.

VERY POOR if you want to fish next to a main road with bikes and cars tanking it past you all day then this is the place for you! its really not good. Noted with interest TB comments of his recent visit. I fish it regularly and quality of fish is superb for a water this size. It is not a water that gives up its treasures easily-you can fill your bass bag in a couple of hours in venues both north and south of Moorhen if you wish. It does, however, generally offer a challenge, where some watercraft skills will aid success. I actually fished Moorhen on 4 occasions mid to end May, presumably around same time as TB and had quality hard fighting fish, each occasion, on drys and buzzers. I walked the banks many times and saw no fish in distress, far less in poor (scaby)condition.Readers should not be overly influenced by TBs unbalanced comments-perhaps his fishing a minky in a water full of natural fly life says it all!

the tackle shop they have there is stocked by greys and they have a good range of both rods and clothes the fly selection is one of the best i have seen at a fishery of this size.

As a complete beginner to fly fishing, I took the introduction course that this venue offers. Was given quality hire tackle and a superb instructor who taught me the basics in 2 hours but offered his help for the rest of my visit.
I cant compare to other trout venues but this place had everything I needed. This venue has improved immensely since Mark and Wendy took over who are very keen hosts to every angler. A good selection of food is offered along with free tea or coffee. There is a large selection of flys available for purchase and part of the lodge has since been converted into a shop providing rods, reels and other tackle/accessories.
